James Rutka
James Rutka is a neurosurgeon from Toronto, Canada. In 2014, he was admitted to the Order of Ontario in recognition for his brain research, in particular, pediatric brain research. Rutka’s clinical practice is at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He is currently the R.S. McLaughlin Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, Editor-In-Chief of the ''Journal of Neurosurgery'', and the Director of the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre. His clinical and research interests focus on brain tumours in children and the surgical treatment of epilepsy in children. Rutka was born in Toronto, Canada. He attended Princeton University in 1977 and obtained his MD from Queen’s University in 1981 and Ph.D in Experimental Pathology from the University of California, San Francisco in 1987. Since 1990, he has been on surgical staff in the Division of Paediatric Neurosurgery at The Hospital for Sick Children of the University of Toronto.
